Treatments for cats
Overview
Cats can be good at hiding pain, and the signs are often subtle. At A-Vet, we offer treatments for cats throughout their lives – from vaccinations to dental care, surgery and imaging.

Treatments for cats at all stages of life
Treatments for cats at A-Vet in Larvik follow the cat throughout its life – from vaccinations and preventive health examinations as a kitten to diagnostics, dental treatment and surgery later in life. Cats can be good at hiding pain and illness, and the first signs can be small changes in, among other things, activity level, appetite, fur care or behavior. Therefore, a thorough clinical examination is important even when the symptoms are not very obvious.
Vaccination of cats
We vaccinate against the core diseases feline distemper and feline influenza. The basic vaccination usually starts around eight weeks of age and consists of several doses throughout the kitten period – see vaccination of cats for the entire program. If the kitten has already received vaccinations from the breeder, please bring the vaccination card so that we can assess which vaccinations are still required. When traveling abroad, a rabies vaccine may be required, and the cat must be ID-tagged before the vaccine is given – see travel with dog and cat for what applies. We assess other vaccines individually based on the cat's medical history and risk of infection.
Diagnostics and surgery for cats
During the investigation, we use, among other things, digital direct X-ray and ultrasound. Ultrasound can be used to examine abdominal organs, pregnancy, and the heart, depending on the problem. If necessary, the images can be evaluated in collaboration with IDEXX Telemedicine or external radiologists. We also examine cat's eyes in case of suspicion of eye disease. Castration and other surgical procedures are performed under anesthesia with monitoring adapted to the patient, and castration can be combined with ID marking if desired.
Dental treatment and ear infections in cats
Dental disease is common in cats, and the risk increases with age. Tooth resorption is a common dental condition in cats and can be difficult to fully assess without dental x-rays. In dental treatment We examine the entire oral cavity and take X-rays of the teeth under anesthesia, with continuous monitoring of, among other things, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and temperature.
By ear infection We examine the ear canal with a video otoscope and take a cytological sample if necessary. In young cats, ear mites can be an important cause, while adult cats more often have other underlying causes that must be assessed individually.
