Other treatments at A-Vet Larvik
In addition to the treatment options for dogs and cats, A-Vet in Larvik offers a number of other treatments within diagnostics, internal medicine, surgery and follow-up. Below you will find the individual treatments and services. We accept emergency patients during regular opening hours – see opening hours for when we are open – and refer you if there is a need for an examination or intervention that we do not perform ourselves.
Diagnostics and internal medicine
By internal medicine examination We combine clinical examination with blood and urine tests, laboratory diagnostics and imaging. We have our own laboratory with, among others, IDEXX Catalyst Dx, ProCyte Dx and Eurolyser CubeX, and can provide results for many samples on the same day. X-ray and ultrasound used for both routine examinations and more complex problems, and the images can be assessed in collaboration with external radiologists if necessary. With endoscopy We examine, among other things, the nose, respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract. Heart examination may include echocardiography, ECG, Holter ECG and blood pressure measurement, depending on the problem.
Surgery, anesthesia and emergency care
Surgical procedures is performed under general anesthesia with a Mindray Veta 5 anesthesia machine and ePM monitor, with continuous monitoring adapted to the individual patient. For animals that become anxious or fearful at the veterinarian, sedatives or sedation make the examination more gentle. Emergency vet is available during opening hours. Animals that need observation or follow-up after treatment can stabled with us, with separate rooms for dogs and cats and oxygen supply if needed.
Prevention, dental health and other services
On the outpatient clinic We do health examinations, health certificates and ID marking. Vaccination adapted to age, health and risk of infection rather than following a fixed program. Dental treatment is performed under general anesthesia with dental X-rays of the entire oral cavity. We also offer reproductive assessment and inseminationand laser treatment as a supplement for certain pain and rehabilitation conditions.
Reproduction and insemination in dogs
The right timing often determines whether a mating is successful. We measure progesterone at the clinic with results the same day, take vaginal swabs, perform insemination with fresh semen and check pregnancy with ultrasound.
