Heavy expertise in ophthalmology, eye disorders and eye surgery
We receive referred patients in ophthalmology (eye disorders) from all over Vestfold for examination, as well as dogs that need eye exams for examination of hereditary eye diseases in relation to breeding. Elisabeth Bjørnestad
Elisabeth Bjørnestad has completed postgraduate training in ophthalmology at the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies in 2002, 2005 and 2011 and is particularly interested in eye surgery. She became a licensed ophthalmologist in 2008 and is happy to see patients for eye examinations, ophthalmoscopy and eye surgical treatments.
How does an eye examination take place with us?
During an eye examination, we assess all layers of the eye, tear production and the cornea with advanced equipment. We use a slit lamp (biomicroscope) for a thorough examination of the cornea, lens and anterior chamber of the eye, as well as Tonovet for non-contact measurement of the pressure in the eye – necessary to detect glaucoma. If hereditary eye disease is suspected, we can supplement with gonioscopy for early screening of glaucoma.
During surgical procedures, we use an advanced operating microscope (Takagi OM-300) with apochromatic optics for accurate visualization during surgery, and ARC Laser for gentle treatment of eye diseases and soft tissue surgery where minimal bleeding is essential.
