The sunshine story of Ronja
A couple of weeks ago we took in a little Labradoddle bitch aged 1,5 years who had stopped eating in a short time and who seemed very lethargic.
She had also started vomiting in the last 24 hours. The owner suspected a foreign body in the stomach/intestines. She had not been sick before – and the owner was very worried. Ronja was thoroughly examined.

Kidney failure
It turned out that she had developed kidney failure – and she was only 1,5 years old. And she had not shown any special symptoms before. The only thing the owner had observed was that she was very calm – but thought she was starting to grow up. Ronja was immediately admitted for intensive care while we tried to find the cause of the kidney failure. The ultrasound examination showed that she has bacterial renal pelvis inflammation. Left untreated, it can lead to kidney failure.
Ronja was very sick – so we sent her to a 24-hour animal hospital for admission and further treatment. She stayed there for many days before returning to us.
Jumping happy
Ronja visited us again yesterday. She came bounding towards us and seemed so happy. And even though she was going to take a blood test and get poked in the leg one more time, she didn't say a word.
She is doing better now – she is eating diet food and enjoying herself – but she is still not out of danger. She will be on medication for 3 more weeks.
Ronja is young – and kidneys can regenerate to some extent – so we crossed our fingers.
A few weeks ago I called the owner who told me that Ronja was doing very well. She has put on weight and is eating well – which we thought was absolutely fantastic to hear.
We are very happy with the treatment Ronja received at A-Vet and the Fredrikstad Animal Hospital. She is becoming more and more active every day – playing and running around like a puppy. She seems healthy – and we hope it continues like this for a long time.
